Applied Behavior Analysis, or ABA, is a widely-recognized method of improving behaviors in children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. A licensed practitioner of ABA has spent years studying and mastering the method, and are vital resources to use for helping your child with ASD improve their behaviors.
ABA starts with a certified BCBA or BCaba consultant performing an in-depth assessment of your child’s needs, including a day of observation and developing a custom plan that is designed to both reduce bad behaviors and reward good behaviors. At Allcare Therapy Services, we change behaviors with positive reinforcement.
Parental involvement is crucial to the development and changing of these behaviors, and is a key pillar of ABA. It doesn’t start and end in the classroom–ABA provides guidance for parents to take home and take action so they can continue correcting behaviors even without the supervision of a trained professional.
Functional Behavior Assessment
A Functional Behavior Assessment, or FBA, is the process by which the certified therapist identifies behaviors that they want to target and improve through a combination of observation and parental input. These are based largely on the experience of our BCBA consultants and are constantly changing as your child makes progress or develops new behaviors.
Many times, we find through the FBA that unwanted behaviors are a result of delays in language and speech development, which can be corrected with our speech therapy services from our certified SLPs.
